Class Four

Welcome to Class Four!

Our topic this half term is 'Virtuous Victorians' and we will be answering the question 'How did life change during Victorian times?'

In Literacy, we will be immersing ourselves into the wonderful story of 'Oliver Twist' by Charles Dickens.  We will be writing character descriptions, setting descriptions, first person narratives, job advertisements, instruction writing and persuasive arguments.  In whole class reading, we will continue to read the amazing 'The Girl of Ink and Stars' by Kiran Millwood Hargrave.

In Maths, we will be exploring fractions, algebra and ratio and proportion.

In R.E we will reflect on this half term's value of 'hope'. We will also ask the question, 'What matters most to Humanists and Christians?'

In History we will be learning about workhouses, working children, schools and the struggle of the poor during Victorian times.  We will also learn about the people who tried to help them.

In Science we will be learning about evolution, inheritance and how animals are adapted to suit their environment.

In Art and DT, we will be creating thaumatropes, zootropes, designing postage stamps and looking at silhouettes.

In PSHE, we will be focusing on the unit,  'Growing and Changing ' using the SCARF programme of study.

In ICT, we will be using Purple Mash to explore the use of databases and concept maps.

In Music, we will be focusing on rehearsing for our big summer show!

Check out this page for photos below, showing all of the fantastic things we have been doing in our learning!

At home - your challenge is to continue working towards your next Reading Karate Band. Make sure you are also using Sum Dog, Spelling Shed, Times Table Rockstars and preparing for your weekly spellings challenges! It is so important, now more than ever, that parents and teachers work together to ensure the children have the best education there is to offer!
