Class Three

Welcome to Class Three!

This half term our topic is ‘Amazing Ancient Greece’ and we will be answering the question,

‘What was it like to live in Ancient Greece?’

In this second Summer Term, we are looking forward to lots of exciting learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors now that the nicer weather is on its way!

In English, through our guided reading sessions, we will be immersing ourselves in ‘Who let the God’s out’ by Maz Evans. We will be basing our literacy work this term on ‘Greek Myths’ By Marcia Williams. We will be writing a story in the style of a Greek myth and diary entries.

In R.E we will reflect on this half term's value of 'Hope’ and think about what we hope for in the future. We will also ask ‘What is the Trinity?’ and explore the 'Understanding Christianity' unit of our RE curriculum.

In Maths, we will be using a combination of Power Maths and White Rose to develop our skills as mathematicians. Y3 will be learning about fractions, properties of shapes, time, and mass and capacity. Whilst, Y4 will be learning about decimals, time, geometry, and money. We will continue to focus on becoming secure with times tables.

In Science, both Y3 and Y4 will be focusing on Animals including humans as their topics. Y3 will be learning all about nutrition, how the human skeleton and the body’s muscles work. Meanwhile, Y4 will be learning about the digestive system and its function, tooth decay, and food chains.

In History, we will be learning about Ancient Greece and looking at how people lived, what they believed, their achievements, and how they influenced the western world.

At home - your challenge is to continue working towards your next Reading Karate Band.  Make sure you are also using Sum Dog, Times Table Rockstars and preparing for your weekly spelling challenges! Year 4 children will be bringing home additional times table challenges in preparation for the upcoming times table check towards the end of the year.

Remember that you can also be completing the exciting challenges for the '50 things to do before leaving Primary school'.
